In My Dreams
The first music we ever released was a CD-R in 2001 called Burn which had three songs on it: Burn This Candle Out, In My Dreams, and Sleep Come Down. I think we made about 30 of them. Later in the year we reissued the tracks on an eight song EP CD-R called Shine. Both have been unavailable for some time.
In My Dreams, as the title suggests, is based pretty faithfully on a dream that Jamie had, and as dreams rarely have a sensible narrative, neither does the song. We tried to create a simple dream-like atmosphere, keeping the arrangement very sparse with just acoustic guitar, flute, subdued strings and vocals, with the flute playing a major role. The solo (which starts at 2.27) is a stellar piece of inventive improvised playing and if memory serves me was done in one take.
In the early days especially, number of our songs, including this one, featured angel-like figures of indeterminate hue – or at least figures that could be mistaken for angels. Whilst these Strange Angels are less apparent in our lyrics these days, they still feature in a number of the short stories.

In My Dreams
I sit looking at your picture,
You sit staring back at me,
Ever seeking inspiration,
For I see you in my dreams.
Watch the sun roll cross the lowlands,
Watch the moon float on the sea,
And your voice is there to haunt me
There’s a different world inside my dreams.
In my dreams I’m just like any other,
In my dreams you will never fade away,
In my dreams your voice goes on forever,
In my dreams.
And when the night has finally fallen,
Fold your wings and follow me.
I will take you on that journey,
But tread lightly in my dreams.
