Blind was written during the build up to the invasion of Iraq. It reflects a certain disbelief in the way the populations of both the UK and the US seemed to turn a blind eye to what was being done in their name - at least that was the way it seemed to us at the time. The initial idea, melody and chord sequence were Jamie’s, but the final piece is very much a collaboration, especially the lyrics - so much of the song’s impact is down to the vocal harmonies.Of all the songs on the album, this is the one that’s had most radio play in the United States - which probably proves there were a lot more doubters in there prior to the invasion than we were led to believe by the press reports coming out of Washington.

blind

And though the storm is raging
My eyes are blind, my eyes are blind
And though the world is crazy
My eyes are blind, my eyes are blind.

And though the guns are blazing
My eyes are blind, my eyes are blind
And though the world is crazy
My eyes are blind, my eyes are blind.

And I don’t want to see,
No no I don’t want to see
The world in a different light
I keep it out of my mind and out of sight
And I don’t want to see,
No, no, I don’t want to see
The world on t.v.
Cos tonight I don’t want to face reality.

And now the light is fading
I close my eyes, I close my mind
And all the world’s gone crazy
Our eyes are blind, our eyes are blind.
